The Story Behind The Song

King Bob's Basement was inspired by my dad, who was affectionately named “King Bob” by the neighbours. It’s a celebration of the South London basement parties he held in the 1960s.

In an ordinary brick house, he built something unforgettable — music, food, laughter, Blue Beat, reggae, rum, neighbours, family and a little bit of rebellion.

This song celebrates the stories I grew up hearing: the leather bar with his name embossed on it, the records spinning, curry goat, stairwell laughter, and the way London and Jamaica met beneath his home.
